Bringing It All Together: Introducing Our All‑in‑One Marketing Platform

If you’ve read anything about Mailchimp, you probably know that Dan Kurzius and I founded the company together back in 2001. We started Mailchimp as a side project for our web design business after we were both laid off from our corporate jobs.

Dan and I made such good partners because we both grew up in families with small businesses; Dan’s father ran a bakery, and my mother ran a hair salon out of our kitchen. Later, my sister started a salon, too, eventually opening up a storefront. We also had firsthand experience with those small businesses failing. Dan’s father lost the bakery when a larger chain came into town. My mom was never able to move her salon out of our kitchen and while my sister managed to make this jump, she ended up having to close her salon.

Dan and I created Mailchimp for the love of small business. And over the past 18 years, we’ve always thought about what kinds of tools and services would have helped our families grow their businesses and weather the competition.

Our customers have big aspirations, but are short on time and budgets. Our email marketing product has helped millions of businesses grow, but our customers have been asking for years for us to build something that would enable them to do all of their marketing in one place. Small business owners and entrepreneurs don’t have time to manage three, four, or five different platforms that each serve one specific purpose, and they don’t want their data all over the place: They need a tool powered by data and expertise that will help them know where to invest their marketing dollars.

So we built an all-in-one Marketing Platform to empower small businesses to connect with their audiences and create the customer love that’s needed to grow. For more than two years, we’ve been adding new features, like landing pages, Facebook ads, Google remarketing ads, postcards, social posting, and our marketing CRM tools that have become the heart of the Mailchimp platform. This week, we’re bringing it all together with a deeply integrated app experience for users, so they can market smarter and grow faster, new packages that allow customers to get the most out of Mailchimp, and a global marketing campaign where we tell the world we’re officially an “all-in-one Marketing Platform.”

Whether you’re a one-person show or a business that’s scaling up quickly, we have both the platform and the packages to meet your needs. But we’re not stopping there. We’re dedicated to democratizing marketing technology for small business, and providing the latest, most powerful tools at affordable prices. We’ll continue listening hard to our customers’ needs, constantly improving our platform and building new features along the way. (Have you heard...landing pages are here and websites are on the way?)

We’re obviously excited about this news, but also understand that it’s going to seem like a big change for some of our longtime customers. I want to assure you that we’re making these changes thoughtfully based on what our customers have been asking for, and strategically based on how we know marketing platforms can help small businesses grow. And we’re looking out for our loyal customers throughout the process—our current customers will be able to stay on their pricing plan as long as they like until they choose to upgrade. We even have an Essentials Plan designed for those customers who still use Mailchimp primarily for email marketing. We hope that one day all of our customers take advantage of our full marketing platform, but we’re not going to force you into it.

And we’ll do all this while staying true to our values and our mission. Our platform is Mailchimp through and through: user-friendly with award-winning support, and the same brand you know and love.

We know what it means to pour every bit of yourself into your small business. We know the joy and satisfaction that comes when those businesses succeed, and we’ve felt the lasting sting of failure. But what’s baked into our DNA is that ambition all of our family members had: their aspiration to move “out of the kitchen” and build their businesses, to take a small seed of an idea and make it grow.

We’ve been proud to serve as the launchpad for so many successful small businesses, and it’s been so fun to watch you grow.

Onward!
